Call for Female Caregivers to Join or Help with “A Forum For Her” Support Group

The Us TOO call-in caregiver support group A Forum for Her was established for the women behind the men affected by prostate cancer. Because prostate cancer is a couple’s disease, the woman is often subject to her own concerns in addition to those she shares with her partner. A Forum for Her is a regular call series which focuses on women and offers important peer-to-peer support. Ladies – your role as a caregiver for a man with prostate cancer gives you an understanding and compassion for others who navigate this journey. We hope you have found support in many ways and have developed your own self-care strategies. Out of your experiences, maybe you have seen that others are looking for ways to connect, to be listened to and really heard, understood, validated, and encouraged. If you are ready to take a role in making these connections possible, we invite you to give us some information about your situation and possible availability. Our hope at Us TOO is that this year we might grow our options for caregiver support.
Would you join our team and volunteer? Let us know! Thank you for considering making a gift of your time and compassion! To register for any of our A Forum for Her calls, or volunteer to help, email terril@ustoo.org or call 336-842-3578 . CLICK HERE for more information on A Forum for Her . Warmest regards,
Terri Likowski

Looking for Survey Participants

We’ve been contacted by McGill University and McMaster University to assist with a couple of studies that they have underway. If you fit the parameters, for either one or both, please help out. Contact details are below. Thanks!

From Fatima Yashmin at McGill University:

Self-employed Cancer Survivor Study
We are seeking to interview self-employed cancer survivors who are remaining or returning to work following cancer. Considering the dearth of knowledge on this topic, the intent is to gather as many experiences from self-employed cancer survivors to be able to derive strategies to assist in overcoming barriers encountered.

You can share the advertisement attached with your support group or anyone that you believe will take interest.

Thank you again for this kind gesture. Fatima Yashmin

From Shipra Taneja at McMaster University:

I’m a Research Assistant at McMaster University (Urology). I am working with Dr. Anil Kapoor from McMaster University on a quantitative study about Canadian urological cancer patient’s perceptions on cannabis. There is a research study being done through the Urological Cancer Centre for Research and Innovation in Hamilton, Ontario.

We were wondering if your prostate cancer support group would be able to help us in recruiting participants for this research study by sharing our survey link. It is a one-time, 15-minute survey through RedCAP for urological cancer patients (kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular) to fill out if they are currently using cannabis. We are also not collecting any personal identifiers.

They are looking for patients who are currently using cannabis to fill out a one-time 10-minute survey to understand their attitudes and beliefs surrounding cannabis for cancer. If you are interested in participating in the study, please visit: https://rsjh.ca/redcap/surveys/?s=8MX9K33T7H

Your decision to participate in this study will not be known to us, and no personal identifiers will be collected.
Thank you for considering this request. Shipra Taneja

November 2020 Support Group Meeting

Fawn Meeking, RPN

For our November 2020 Support Group Meeting, we are pleased to welcome our guest speaker, Fawn Meeking, RPN. Please note that this will be a virtual meeting using Zoom (details below).

Fawn Meeking, RPN, is the owner of A Step Above Wellness Centre located in LaSalle. After working in long-term care and then a senior’s centre, where she gained valuable hours providing health care to an aging population, Fawn started a footcare business in 2016. After gaining the confidence she needed to successfully run her own business, she found the perfect location in June 2018 to open A Step Above Wellness Centre.

Of particular interest to our group, A Step Above Wellness Centre offers treatments utilizing the BTL EMSella Chair for men and women of any age who desire a non-invasive therapy treatment for urinary incontinence. The BTL EMSella Chair uses electromagnetic energy to cause deep pelvic floor muscle stimulation without getting undressed. A single BTL EMSella session brings thousands of Kegel-like contractions to help you train your muscles with less effort.

Please join us for this informative session with Fawn Meeking.
