Gary Switzer, Chief Executive Officer
Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network
Gary Switzer joined the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) in August, 2005 as the inaugural CEO. As the first employee, he has built the organization to oversee the planning, integration, and funding of over 80 local health service providers including seven hospitals, with an annual budget of $1 billion.
Gary has a genuine passion for health care that drives him and the LHIN staff to make a difference in the lives of Erie St. Clair residents. Through his leadership, the Erie St. Clair LHIN has focused on improving system accountability, and reducing surgical, emergency department and diagnostic wait times. Gary provided the local introduction of innovative programs including Home First, Palliative Care Outreach, and Health Links.
Prior to joining the health care sector, Gary was a senior executive within the telecommunications industry. The national and international business experience he brings to the LHIN, provides a fresh perspective and leadership presence needed for thinking outside of the health care box.
The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (ESC LHIN) is one of 14 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) in Ontario. The LHINs were established in 2006 to manage the planning, integration, performance, and funding of the health care system.
LHINs are community-based, non-profit organizations funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to plan, fund and coordinate services.
